Parolee Holed Up in Cabin Surrenders
Arturo Renteria, 33, a reputed member of a criminal street gang who had been arrested during a 2011 Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department narcotics enforcement effort on charges of methamphetamine sales, was reported as having “absconded from parole” in media reports issued by Kelly Hoover, SBSD Public Information Officer, and had thusly become the subject of a county-wide manhunt.

The search for Renteria led deputies from the SBSD Gang Enforcement Unit to what Hoover described as “a cabin” in a tourist-populated RV park in Buellton, just north of Solvang and Santa Barbara.
According to Hoover, at 5:30 a.m. July 24th, multiple law enforcement units, “including detectives, the Santa Maria Police Department, the Santa Barbara Regional Narcotics Enforcement Team and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation” flooded the area located in the 1000 block of Buellton’s well-traveled Avenue of the Flags.
Since Renteria is a known gang member involved in illicit sales of controlled substances and was considered potentially armed, SWAT was also on the scene. Evacuations of campers at the RV Park were made in the interests of safety, following which verbal contact was made with Renteria.
Fifteen minutes later, undoubtedly seeing the law enforcement show of force gathered outside his hideout, Renteria exited the cabin in the company of Krisanna Parke, 36, his reputed girlfriend. Both were taken into custody “without incident” according to Hoover. An immediate search of the premises was conducted which led to the discovery of a handgun and an undetermined amount of methamphetamine.
Both were transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where Renteria was booked on charges of parole violation, possession of methamphetamine for sale, and being a member of a criminal street gang in possession of a handgun. Parke was booked on violation of probation and charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, with her bail set at $35,000.
