Parents Arrested after Four-month Old Son Dies in Car
July 27th– El Cajon Police Officers have arrested the parents of a four-month old boy after the child was discovered unresponsive in a vehicle.
The baby was discovered inside the vehicle around 1:30 p.m. of Saturday afternoon at the Belle Vista Apartments in the 500 block of North Mollison Avenue. At the time that the child was discovered in the vehicle, the exterior temperature was around 80 degrees.
Officers were dispatched and immediately began CPR on the infant once they arrived at the scene. The child was later taken to a local hospital, where he died a short while later.
The parents, 30 year-old Israel Soto and 23 year-old Jessica Quezada, had returned home from shopping with the infant on Friday. Officers believe it was at this time that the two had left the infant in the vehicle overnight.
Soto and Quezada separately informed police that they believed the other had brought the infant inside to their home.
Soto was booked into the San Diego Central Jail and charged with one charge of willful cruelty to a child resulting in injury/death. Quezada was booked into the Las Colinas Detention Facility and charged with one charge of willful cruelty to a child resulting in injury/death and one charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Soto and Quezada have three other children who are 3 years-old, 2 years-old, and 1 year-old. The children have been taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
