Final Suspect in Apartment Robbery Arrested
The last suspect involved in a robbery and assault that occurred early July in Loleta has been arrested.
The final suspect, 39 year-old Von Eric Keener, was arrested by an officer with the California Highway Patrol on July 27th.
The robbery happened sometime on July 10th in the 2700 block of Eel River Drive in Loleta. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s office received a call of an assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery that had just occurred.
The victim, a 57 year-old male, told the dispatcher that he was assaulted by two men in an apartment. The victim told deputies he went to the apartment complex to sell prescriptions drugs to the suspects, a deal which was arranged by two women he knows.
Once he arrived at the residence, he was met by the two men. The three men began to argue and the two suspects began to strip the victim of his personal items, including his cell phone and car keys. To escape from the two men, the victim jumped out of a window but was injured in the process. The two suspects left the apartment and drove away in the victim’s vehicle.
He described one of the attackers as being armed with a double barrel shot gun and the other with a baseball bat. He also described one man as being a dark skinned male and the other a shorter dark skinned male. The females who set up the prescription sales were also considered as suspects.
Deputies conducted a search of the apartment once they arrived at the scene. They were unsuccessful in finding anyone in the residence, but were able to discover evidence that agreed with the victim’s story.
The first three suspects, 32 year-old Darlene Patricia Vandeepoel, 28 year-old Tristan Laverne Roberts and 38 year-old Zackary Jacob Chapman, were arrested a few days after the robbery. All three were booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of robbery and conspiracy, with their bail set at $100,000.
Keener was also booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, terrorist threats and vehicle theft.
