Hollister Police Investigate City’s Third Homicide Of The Year
Incident Appears to be Gang Related
HOLLISTER—The Hollister Police Department have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile from Morgan Hill for the murder of 19-year-old Hollister resident Andres Guzman.
On August 8, at 6:30 Hollister Police arrived at the intersection of Fourth Street and Powell Street in downtown Hollister and found Guzman suffering from a stab wound to his upper torso.
Emergency personnel from the Hollister Fire Department and American Medical Response rendered medical attention and transported Guzman to Hazel Hawkins Hospital. Guzman later died of his wound at the Hospital.
Police investigated this incident as gang related. Hollister Police Detectives investigated numerous leads in this case, as there were several witnesses to the stabbing. The witnesses told police the suspect was a Hispanic male, of medium build with short dark hair.
Other witnesses reported that the suspect approached the Guzman with two other Hispanic males. They also told police that they witnessed the suspect stab Guzman in the upper chest with the knife that he was carrying.
Then the suspect fled with the two other individuals in a grey or silver late model Chevrolet Malibu last seen traveling eastbound on Fourth Street. This makes the City’s third homicide of the year the other two happened back in May. In that incident, two victims died of their wounds following a drive-by shooting.
Hollister Police Detectives served two warrants in regards to this case they expect to make more arrest as the investigation unfolds.
“We are committed to finding the person responsible for this crime.” Hollister Police Chief David Westrick said, “We owe it to his family and friends, the neighborhood and the community as a whole.”
