Salinas Police Deal With Violent Month
Police Investigate sixth Homicide of the Month
SALINAS—Investigators with the Salinas Police Department arrested three individuals for the murder of 18-year-old Salinas resident Alfredo Velasco. They have arrested Salinas residents 22-year-old Nathaniel Spark-Musones, 18-year-old Kristopher Hargrove and a 17-year-old juvenile for Velasco’s murder.
On Saturday August 10 at 4:17 Salinas Police responded to a victim of a shooting at the intersection of Eucalyptus and Parkway. Upon their arrival, they found Velasco suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Velasco was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds.
Following a description from eyewitnesses Salinas Police Officers located a stolen black pickup truck that matched the description given by the witnesses, near the intersection of East Market and Ivy Street. When police attempted to stop the vehicle the vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated.
“We found the vehicle not far from the initial stop, they had been driving in circles,” Salinas Police Investigations Sergeant Jim Arensdorf said. “They had crashed their vehicle and left on foot where they were found a short distance away.”
All three suspects are known gang members. They were transported and booked into Monterey County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle. After an investigation, the three suspects were booked on an additional charge of murder.
All three also face a variety of gun and gang enhancement charges. This was the sixth homicide in the City of Salinas for the month August, but the month is only half over.
The Salinas Police Detectives are still looking for additional witnesses to this shooting or anyone with information regarding this incident are encouraged to contact the Salinas Police Department’s Investigations Unit at 831-775-4222.
