Drinking While Working Does Not Mix
Suspect claimed self-defense
WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville Police Department have arrested the nephew of 55-year-old Watsonville businessmen Ramiro Romo. 23-year-old Watsonville resident Josue Romo is accused of attempting to murder his uncle in a struggle over a loaded revolver.
Officers with the Watsonville Police Department responded to the early morning shooting near the area of Union Street and Front Street. While they were in route, a male met them and directed them to Romo’s Auto Sales at 118 Riverside Drive where the shooting occurred.
Upon arrival, Officer’s located Josue Romo inside the business. At first, he did not comply with officers but eventually relented and followed their order to put down the revolver that he was reaching for nearby.
Officers discovered that a Ramiro Romo was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital by an acquaintance for treatment for a gunshot. He was later transported to a Bay Area trauma center for treatment for life threatening injuries.
“We determined that Josue Romo shot the victim, during a struggle over the loaded revolver, inside the business.” Watsonville Police Department stated in a press release.
While interviewing Romo, Investigating officers learned that a group of individuals were drinking heavily and using drugs. He also admitted to firing the weapon so that the victim would not gain control of it.
Romo was arrested and transported to Santa Cruz County Jail and booked on charges of attempted murder. His bail was set at $250,000.
