Unintimidated Vacaville Couple Foil Carjack Attempt; Suspect Flees On Bicycle
Vacaville Police said they arrested an Oakland man after he tried to carjack a local couple shopping at a local convenience store on November 17.
The couple arrived at the convenience store around 8 pm that evening. The woman entered the store but quickly left when she encountered a man whom she later said was “acting strangely.” She returned to her vehicle while the man of the couple continued fueling it.
Victor Maciel, 20, later identified as the strangely acting suspect, exited the store, mounted his bicycle and circled around the rear of the couple’s car.
He confronted the woman and demanded her cell phone. She refused to give it up. The raised voices attracted the man’s attention. He quickly approached Maciel who pulled out a knife said he was going to steal the car.
After a short while, Maciel fled on his bicycle. Police immediately responded to the couple’s 911 call. They contacted Maciel nearby. He resisted arrest.
An Electronic Control Device was deployed one time. After being “tased,” Maciel immediately ceased his resistance.
Maciel was checked out at a local hospital and lodged in Solano County Jail on several charges including attempted carjacking violating probation.
