FRESNO – Police are searching for a man and woman they believe are responsible for the murder of a man on a motel along Highway 99 on Sunday.
Authorities say 33-year-old Cosmen Alvarez and 45-year-old Yolanda Aviles are responsible for shooting and killing a 36-year-old man who was found at the Vagabond Inn off of Highway 99 and Jensen Avenue. The man had suffered from several gunshot wounds and his 29-year-old girlfriend had been pistol-whipped, authorities said.
Authorities say the victims and the suspects knew each other and may have been semi-related. They say a dispute over property or money may have led to the shooting. Three pounds of marijuana were found in the victim’s car, as well as several cell phones.
Following the attack, Alavarez and Aviles fled the scene in a light-colored vehicle. They are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867 or Detective Tony Rivera at (559) 621-2441.
This is Fresno’s 37th murder so far in 2013. Last year at this time, there were 51 murders.
