A 72-year-old man saved from a burning car on Christmas Day was later arrested for allegedly driving the vehicle under the influence of drugs.
The driver, who has not yet been named, was traveling on the 405 freeway in San Diego when he lost control of his 1991 Mercedes Benz and collided with the right shoulder wall. He then swerved across the lanes and collided with the center divider.
The man’s car burst into flames while he was still inside. But a quick responding LAPD bomb squad officer and two other drivers pulled him out.
The man escaped with minor burns to his arms and hand, and was treated by paramedics.
He was later arrested when investigating officers found evidence that he was under the influence of drugs while driving, according to reports.
