SANTA ROSA – A Saturday night party had a bad ending for several minor teens when they were arrested early Sunday morning.
According to Santa Rosa Police, the department received a call yesterday morning reporting several young people at the Economy Motel on Santa Rosa Avenue drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, and that the caller had also seen one of them with a gun. Officers responded to the location at 6:35 am Sunday morning.
The knock on the suspected door resulted in the immediate attempt of several of them to climb through the bathroom window at the back of the room. None were successful however, and officers soon had four boys and one girl in custody, all exhibiting signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A search of the room revealed several opened and unopened bottles of alcohol. A replica handgun, which lacked any markings distinguishing it from a real weapon, was also found in a trash can in the room.
One 17-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys were arrested for being minors in possession of alcohol. A 14-year-old girl was arrested on the same charge, and a 14-year-old boy was arrested for both alcohol possession and for having a bag of marijuana on him. The missing suspect is an adult man who rented the room for the kids, but was not on the premises when police arrived. He was not identified pending the investigation, but if caught, will face a slew of charges for child endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of minors, and other possible offenses depending on his degree of involvement with the kids in the room. Two of the minors arrested were already on probation with a stipulation of “No association with gang members.”
The kids were all booked and released to their parents. They are all from Santa Rosa, except the 14-year-old boy who is from Windsor, a few miles north. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Santa Rosa Police at 707-543-3600.
