LOS ANGELES – Law enforcement continued its “Avoid the 100” operation to stop DUI drivers. During the recent 19-day holiday period (Friday December 13th at 12:01 a.m. through midnight January 1, 2014), 2,268 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Law enforcement officials will conduct additional “Avoid the 100” campaigns during Super Bowl Sunday (February 2) and St Patrick’s Day in March. In addition the police encourage the public to report drunk drivers by calling 911.
Besides routine patrols, police conducted sobriety checkpoints and “special saturation patrols” throughout Los Angeles County. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration notes that sobriety checkpoints can save up to $6 for every $1 spent.
