SANTA BARBARA — Ronald Anthony Beltran, 39, might fall into the category of “mean drunk”, based upon the events of January 5th which resulted in charges against him of attempted murder, auto theft, hit & run, and resisting arrest.
According to Santa Barbara Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, SBPD officers responding to a report of a stolen vehicle just before midnight, discovered a relative of Beltran’s suffering from multiple stab wounds to his back… as well as a missing pickup truck. Upon investigation, the victim reported that “Beltran had stabbed him as the victim was taking a shower” some seven hours earlier that day, and that Beltran had threatened to kill him immediately prior.
The victim, with the help of a third family member, successfully fought Beltran off, and when Beltran fled the home, the incident was not reported while the victim “continued with his personal business,” even leaving the residence at some point. When the victim returned home, however, his patience — even after having been stabbed multiple times — apparently came to an end when he discovered that Beltran had returned home and then taken his truck. Once the vehicle was reported as stolen to SBPD investigators, the California Highway Patrol informed the local agency that the truck had been crashed and abandoned near U.S. 101.
Beltran’s personal vehicle, however, had been left behind at the residence, giving SBPD officers a viable surveillance site which proved fruitful when Beltran was spotted in the area returning to his van. He was promptly contacted by officers, and because he was less than cooperative, according to Harwood, “he was forcefully taken into custody.”
Beltran was then booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on his multiple felonies and is currently held without bail.
