No Mulligan for Driver Who Leads Police Pursuit through Golf Course
JURUPA VALLEY – After failing to pull over in an attempted traffic stop, a Jurupa Valley woman led Sheriff’s deputies on a chase that ended on a joy ride through a local golf course.
On Tuesday, January 7 at 6:18 p.m., deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team noticed a driver who was driving erratically and who they suspected was under the influence. Officers made an attempt to pull over the 2003 Buick Century while driving in the area of Limonite and Bain Street in Jurupa Valley. When the driver failed to stop, deputies began to pursue the vehicle.
The driver continued evading the deputies until her erratic driving led her to collide into the chain link fence surrounding Goose Creek Golf Course, located in the area of 66th St. and Etiwanda. The driver continued to flee through the greens until the vehicle came to a stop on the golf cart path. At this time the driver was detained.
Deeanna Contreras, a 34-year-old resident of Riverside, was deemed to be under the influence and arrested. According to Sergeant Andrew Elia, a further search revealed methamphetamine and packaging materials which were conducive to the sales of methamphetamine in her possession. Contreras is currently on probation.
At this time, Contreras was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of reckless evading, possession of a controlled substance for sales, vandalism, driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and a violation of probation.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department requests that anyone with additional information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Deputy Isaac Perez at the Jurupa Valley Station at (951) 955-2600.
