Sacramento PD Asks for Assistance in Identifying Murder Suspect
The Sacramento Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a suspect in connection to a shooting on Christmas Day that left one teenager dead and two others hospitalized for gun shot wounds.
According to the Sacramento PD, on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at approximately 9:44 pm, officers responded to the 7400 block of 29th Street regarding a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found a male teenage victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was reportedly rushed to an area hospital, where he died several days later. Media reports have identified the victim as Brayan Castanon of Sacramento.
An immediate investigation ensued and officers reportedly discovered multiple subjects had been shot, including two teens — one who had been hospitalized with a non-life threatening injury, and another teenager that had been found at the scene, taken to the hospital by police, treated and released.
The Sacramento PD Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were reportedly called back to the scene to assist with the investigation. The suspect was described by two separate witnesses as a black male in his late teens, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds, with twisted hair.
According to Sacramento PD, no arrests have been made in this case and detectives are actively working to determine a motive for the shooting. Officers believe the victims were among a group of teens who were approached by two suspects on foot. A brief verbal altercation reportedly escalated when the two, reportedly adult, suspects produced guns and began shooting at the victims.
The Sacramento PD urges anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the dispatch center at 916-264-5471 or Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP (4357).
