Security Guard Accused of Rape

Suspect Worked for Security Company out of San Jose

MONTEREY—The Monterey Police have arrested 26-year-old Daniel Lee Bell from Seaside after their investigation led them to believe that he raped a women while on duty.

On December 30, the Monterey Police Department responded to a women’s report that she was raped by an unknown man.  Through an investigation Police developed evidence that led to Lee being identified as the suspect.

At the time of the assault, Bell, who worked as a security guard for Code 3 Security, was on duty assigned to patrol apartment complexes throughout Monterey County.  Bell was in full dress, wearing a uniform, a duty belt with pepper spray and baton, and a stun gun.

“The couple thought that Bell was a police officer because of the uniform and the marked vehicle he was driving.” Monterey Police Department Lieutenant Leslie Sonne said in a press release.

Code 3 Security Company is one of the region’s largest security firms.  According to their website they have more than 500 employees and do business in two states and the District of Columbia.

According to the victim, she and her male companion were contacted by Bell on the 700 block of Pine Street in Monterey as they were walking home from a local bar.  The victim was feeling a little intoxicated and believed that Bell could be trusted because she thought he was a police officer.  Her male companion was sent home. Bell escorted the victim back to her apartment complex where the assault occurred.  Bell was arrested and a warrant and charges with rape of an intoxicated subject.  He was transported to Monterey County Jail in Salinas. His Bail has been set at $150.000 dollars
