Ventura – After an investigation lasting more than 17 months that began with a car fire that took place in August of 2012, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Unit Deputies operating out of Thousand Oaks appear to have finally found their man.
It was just before 8:00 a.m. on January 29th when the SEU made contact with Dmitry Kogan, a 47 year-old “self-employed independent consultant”—as he describes himself in his LinkedIn.com posting—and arrested him on suspicion of having ignited a car fire after dousing the vehicle with “a flammable liquid”, according to the media report filed by Ventura County Fire Investigations Unit Detective Michael Rompal.
The vehicle allegedly set afire by Kogan was not owned by him, but by another individual with whom there was some apparent disagreement, and the blaze, Rompal indicated was “the result of a dispute between the parties.” Kogan, who is not currently suspected of involvement in any other arson activity throughout the jurisdiction or during the time period in question, was taken into custody without incident. He was then transported to the Ventura County Jail Pre-Trial Detention Facility, and booked on a single count of arson.
Although there were no injuries associated with the incident, with the nature of Kogan’s alleged crime and the danger of any repeated activity of this nature of obvious community concern, he remains in custody at this time and is held on a bail amount of $250,000.
