A woman and man have been detained as suspects in the suspected murder of a three-year-old girl.
The Napa police were alerted to a possible problem when some called them to do a welfare check at an apartment on the 2000 block of Wilkins Avenue. According to the Napa Police department, Sara Krueger, 23, and Ryan Scott Warner, 26, were seen leaving the apartment carrying luggage with them at 10 am Saturday morning. The witness likely noticed that they left without Krueger’s daughter. Neither of the two have a car, and left the residence on foot.
At about 1 pm, Napa police arrived at the apartment to perform a welfare check based on the concerned witness’ report. They found the girl, later identified as Kayleigh Slusher, dead of apparent blunt force trauma. Not only that, but there was also evidence of sexual assault on the girl.
The fleeing couple were spotted on Sunday near the El Cerrito del Norte BART station and taken into custody by a BART police officer at 11 am. The El Cerrito BART station is over 30 miles from Napa, but there is no word on how they got there.
It was also reported that the toddler’s father is 3-year-old Jason Slusher, an inmate at San Quentin prison. He was reportedly notified about the death of his daughter.
Krueger and Warner were arrested on charges of murder and mistreatment of a child producing great bodily injury or death.
