13-Year-Old shot in the Head During Valentines Day Altercation
Victim was Walking in the Area of Loughead Street
WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville Police Department is looking for several individuals that are believed to be in a gang after one of them shot a 13-year-old boy in the head on Valentines Day.
The Watsonville Police Department responded to Loughead Street on a report of a shooting. When Officers arrived they found a 13-year-old victim lying on the ground in front of a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.
While Emergency Medical Personnel provided treatment to him, police continued to investigate the incident. The victim was only able to provide limited information due to his injury.
Police learned that the victim was walking in the area of Loughead Street when he was approached by several males that he believed were members of a street gang. When, without being provoked, one of the suspects displayed a firearm and fired a shot that struck the teenage boy in the head.
“The victim was transported to a Bay Area trauma due to the severity of his injury” according to Watsonville Police Sergeant Corporal Tom Corral.
“The victim is now recovering and is in stable condition, he was shot in the head through the eye and has lost his eye.” Watsonville Police Detective Charles Bailey said, “We still do not have any leads as to who or how many individuals there was. The attack was unprovoked, he was walking in the area which is near his home.”
This incident is being investigated as a gang related shooting because of the suspect’s actions. Police believe that the victim is not a member of a street gang, nor does he have an association to a street gang.
