TEHACHAPI — A suspect sought in connection with a shooting that forced a local elementary school into lockdown earlier this month, was arrested by police on Wednesday afternoon.
Anthony Pina, 26, was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and gross negligent discharge of a firearm, after he was taken into custody around 2:45 p.m. in the 400 block of East “F” Street in Tehachapi on March 12.
His bail is set at $500,000.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses informed authorities that Pina shot at another Hispanic male near Santa Maria Drive and Madre Street in Golden Hills at around 10:45 a.m. back on Tuesday, March 4.
“The suspect then fled in a vehicle towards Valley Boulevard, before fleeing the area on foot.” KCSO Sgt. Doug Wilson said.
Wilson also added that officials are pursuing other charges and the incident remains under investigation. He also said it doesn’t appear to be gang related.
