Ojai – When a couple of Ojai residents returned home in the early evening of March 31st following a hard day at work, they discovered that their house has been the obvious target of burglars’ handiwork during their absence.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s spokesman Detective Michael Harris, assigned to the VCSD Ojai station, the victims immediately contacted his office to report the burglary and to enumerate numerous and specific pieces of property that were now missing from the premises, including “electronics, camping equipment and firearms.”
The victims apparently had some inkling as to the identity of the most likely suspects, and suggested that deputies make contact with Jonathan Morgan, 27, and Michael Kromidas, 28, both residents of Oak View, a nearby community of little more than 4,000 souls. Using that information as their only lead, on April 1st detectives traveled to Oak View and conducted a simple “probation search” upon Morgan, who enjoyed probationary status pursuant to his adjudication regarding prior burglaries.
It was during that search that deputies “located a large portion of the stolen property,” Harris reported, along with the persons of Morgan and Kromidas.
Both men were arrested on charges of conspiracy and burglary, and were summarily transported to Ventura County Jail where they were booked with bail set at $50,000 each.
