REDDING – As people were enjoying their lunchtime break at Safeway on Pine Street, or perhaps Buz’s Crab Shack next door, a Safeway employee noticed two men arguing in front of the supermarket at about 12:21 pm. According to a Redding Police press release, the employee saw one of the two pull out a handgun and point it at the other man. The man with the gun then left the scene on a white beach cruiser bike.
The Safeway employee reported the incident to police immediately, and Corporal Phil Eoff soon saw someone matching the description. He stopped the man on the bike on Parkview near Leland Avenue just a few blocks away, and just past the Redding Public Library, and South City Park and the Kiwanis Club ball fields.
26-year-old James Noyes of Redding had a loaded, .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his backpack. With a history of prior arrests and felony convictions, Noyes is not permitted to possess a gun. He was arrested and booked at the Shasta County jail for carrying a loaded firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The other man, who Noyes had pointed the gun at during their dispute, has not been found or identified. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Redding police at 530-225-4200.
