Ventura County – In an unusually aggressive effort to locate the perpetrator of what can only be described as a broad daylight “nightmare right out of the movies” crime, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has broadcast a media outreach appeal in an attempt to locate two men who allegedly raped a 25 year-old Moorpark woman when she interrupted a burglary in progress.
According to VCSD spokesman Det. Tim Lanquist, the Elderberry Avenue resident returned to her home just before noon on April 16th, only to discover two men actively burglarizing the place and removing her possessions. While details of what immediately ensued were not made public, Lanquist did report that “the victim reported that she was sexually assaulted after being confronted by the two suspects.” Both suspects, white males between 25 and 35 years of age, then left the residence and “were last seen running north.”
The female victim—who was treated by paramedics for minor injuries—gave detailed descriptions of her assailants, one of which enabled East County Major Crimes Sexual Assault Unit and Moorpark Detectives to provide a sketch of one assailant referred to as “Suspect #2” for public distribution, along with a description indicating that he stands 5-10 to 6-2, “wearing all black clothing, with a dark-colored beanie.” The other suspect, described as standing 6-2 to 6-4, was reported to have been similarly attired.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is eager to hear from anyone who may have knowledge of this crime, possible suspects, or similar assaults, and urges them to contact Det. Lanquist at (805) 494-8229.
