SJPD arrest man in connection with the stabbing death of a 28-year-old female victim
A suspect accused of stabbing a female family member was arrested for San Jose’s 13th Homicide.
According to Sergeant Heather Randol with the SJPD, “The San Jose Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with the City’s 13th Homicide of 2014, on April 29”. The arrest comes after neighbors reported seeing a man exit the apartment located inside a complex in the 100 block of Jose Figueres Avenue in East San Jose.
Witnesses told reporters that they had seen a man leaving the apartment wearing a motorcycle helmet, but were not able to identify him. Many of the residents were still shaken up by the incident, saying they would think twice before allowing a stranger into their apartment.
The husband had gone to pick up their kids for the day and arrived home to find that his wife, 28-year-old Teresa Maravilla was suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was found unconscious and not breathing. “The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Randol said.
SJPD Homicide Unit Investigators developed leads at the scene that “identified Gabriel Alejo as the suspect in the murder of Teresa Maravilla”. Reports confirmed that a relative of the couple, 22-year-old Alejo, had been seen at the apartment a day prior to the incident. Police quickly following the lead were able to detain and arrest the suspect. He was booked into the Santa Clara Main Jail, and is currently being held without bail.
Anyone with information regarding the above case are urged to contact Detective Sgt. Martinez or Detective Barg of the San Jose Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (408) 277-5283.
