Two Richmond residents were reportedly arrested last week at the Rocklin Target store for allegedly using stolen credit cards to make purchases, according to an official press release from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
Darryl Lee Brown, Jr., 33, and Keshia Lashra Owens, 24, both of Richmond, were reportedly arrested and charged with identity theft, burglary, grand theft and use of a fraudulent access device. Both were taken to Placer County Jail — Owens was reportedly released with a promise to appear due to jail overcrowding, and Brown’s bail was reportedly set at $110,000, which he reportedly posted and bailed out.
According to Placer County Sheriff, on Tuesday, May 6, both suspects were observed by a deputy and detective who were in the store. They reportedly watched Brown use stolen credit cards to purchase items. Brown reportedly returned to his car where he began rolling a marijuana cigarette. The detective reportedly approached Brown’s vehicle, and Brown was detained. The detective reportedly found more than 30 Target bags in Brown’s vehicle filled with recently purchased clothes and baby items, as well as many $100 Target gift cards.
Owens was reportedly still in the store when deputies asked her to step outside. She reportedly had numerous credit cards with her name, which were later checked and determined that stolen credit card numbers had been embedded on the magnetic strips of the cards.
During the investigation, detectives reportedly found photographs showing a download of credit card numbers, leading them to reportedly believe Brown had been purchasing personal information online and using it to create counterfeit cards.
