The San Luis Obipso Police arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted an employee of The Sub on Thursday.
According to SLOPD, they received a call around 8:30 p.m. regarding an assault in progress. The reporting party told police an employee of The Sub, located at 295 Higuera Street, was being assaulted by a subject. When officers arrived on the scene they found the victim, Jeremy Salinas, with significant injuries to his face from being kicked by the suspect.
Once a suspect description was obtained, officers searched the area. They found a male subject matching the suspect description. He was found hiding in bushes near Higuera and Marsh. The suspect ran when police tried to contact him.
After a long foot chase that included numerous SLO and Cal Poly University officers and a SLO Sheriff’s K-9 unit, the suspect was apprehended in a field adjacent to Dalidio Road. The suspect was identified by a witness to the assault.
Police arrested Eric Abril, 26, of Morro Bay. Abril was transported to SLO Obispo County Jail and booked on charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing great bodily injury (kick to the head), resisting arrest, possession of a switchblade knife and an outstanding felony warrant out of Santa Clara County. Abril is being held without bail.
Police say the knife was not used during the crime.
