LAKESIDE – 29-year-old Trista Stier decided to end her life on Friday, and chose to drive her Ford the wrong way on state Route 67 in order to do it. 49-year-old Douglas Menegos was driving lawfully on the same road and unwittingly met his fate as Stier’s vehicle apparently intentionally plowed into him and killed them both.
The likable husband and father of two children aged 20 and 17 was driving a utility truck registered to Select Electric Inc. Stier, from Jamul, reportedly drove around other vehicles as she went against traffic at 3:15 pm in order to accelerate in the wrong direction. Her truck had no tags or insurance. The head-on collision also hit a Ford F450 but that driver was uninjured.
A memorial fund has been set up to help with Menegos’ funeral expenses (see link below). It is one small way to attempt and make some sense out of this senseless tragedy.
