Ventura County – The thing about adages and clichés is that they are frequently true, and in the events that took place in the early evening on June 3rd at a popular Thousand Oaks eatery, none is more telling than the one about fights: “Losers go to the hospital while winners go to jail.”
The loser in this case is a 32-year-old Los Angeles man by the name of Enrique Herrera-Aguilar who was enjoying the convivial ambience for which PJ’s Pub and Grill in the upscale Avenida De Los Arboles neighborhood is well known…until he got into what Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. John Gleason reported as “a disagreement” with another restaurant patron.
That conversation, according to Gleason, “quickly escalated into a violent confrontation” between Herrera-Aguilar and Jesse Garcia, a 23-year-old Thousand Oaks resident. When Herrera-Aguilar exited the restaurant shortly thereafter, Garcia followed him out into the parking lot where things went from the verbal to the physical.
It was in the restaurant’s spacious parking lot that Garcia “used closed fists to strike” Herrera-Aguilar with such force that he “sustained serious injuries that were initially considered life-threatening. Garcia promptly left the scene for others to clean things up, and Herrera-Aguilar was eventually transported to a local area hospital where he remains in stable condition.
Two days later, pursuant to law enforcement interviews with witnesses and the victim himself, Garcia was located by detectives and was arrested for assault and battery causing serious bodily injury. He was then transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked with bail set at $40,000, making him both the winner and the loser…
