REEDLEY – The suspect police have been searching for in connection to a double homicide that happened last month was arrested Wednesday evening by Fresno County sheriff’s deputies.
The sheriff’s department arrested 25-year-old Eloy Romero, Jr. for allegedly being responsible for shooting two men in a moving vehicle a month ago.
On May 12, the California Highway Patrol responded to what was believed to be a single-vehicle traffic accident at Buttonwillow and Jefferson avenues. The vehicle had been traveling south on Buttonwillow before veering of the road and crashing into a tree.
However, upon further investigation, the sheriff’s department determined that the two men had both been shot. Their cause of death was determined to be by homicide, not by traffic accident according to the sheriff’s department.
The two men who were killed were Joseph Blunt 38, of Santa Clara, and George Duarte, 40, of Reedley.
Detectives determined that Romero was responsible for the shootings. After receiving an anonymous tip, detectives found Romero in Reedley around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday near E and 9th streets. Romero tried to escape out the back door, but he was caught and arrested, according to the sheriff’s department.
Romero was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of two counts of homicide.
