FRESNO – A teenager fought back against a would-be snatcher on Wednesday, breaking free from his grip and running home to call the police.
Deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department responded to Shaw and Roosevelt avenues after receiving the call regarding the attempted kidnapping around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
The victim, a 14-year-old girl, told the deputies that she was walking on Shaw Avenue toward Moroa when a man approached her and tried to talk to her. The victim was scared and continued walking, police said.
The man then walked up to the girl and attempted to hug her. She pushed him off and tried to run away, but the man grabbed her around the waist. The teen then began hitting, kicking and biting the man until she was able to break free. She then ran home, police said.
Deputies were able to identify 33-year-old Jermaine Henry Birdson as the suspect in the case and arrested him at a nearby bus stop. He was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping.
The girl was not injured during the incident.
