WOFFORD HEIGHTS — An elderly man was arrested on Saturday morning in the small mountain town of Wofford Heights in the Kern River Valley, for allegedly stabbing and beating another man to death.
William Harry Minmaugh Jr., 65, of Wofford Heights was booked into the Kern County Jail for suspicion of murder.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers from the California Highway Patrol Officers were called out to a trailer park in the 6900 block of Wofford Boulevard in Wofford Heights at about 9:30 a.m. on June 21.
“When they arrived, they found a man suffering from stab wounds to his upper torso and back as well as blunt force trauma to his head,” Sherriff’s Public Information Officer Ray Pruitt said. “The victim was identified as 61-year-old John Bartlett of Wofford Heights.”
During their investigation deputies discovered that Bartlett’s injuries were a result of an alleged attack by Minmaugh, who also resided in the trailer park.
Minmaugh was located a short time later and taken into custody at the scene, while Bartlett was transported by ambulance to nearby Kern Valley Hospital where he eventually died from his injuries at 11:30 a.m.
