Santa Barbara County – There are many enduring ramifications to a felony conviction—whether it comes via a jury deliberation or an artfully crafted agreement between defense counsel and a prosecution team—that go far beyond the obvious penalty of serving time behind the walls and concertina wire decorating any of the esteemed residential facilities under the purview of the California Department of Corrections.
One of the more stringent limitations upon the remaining freedoms enjoyed by those who have a felony record is that they are strictly prohibited from possessing firearms, ammunition, or illegal drugs of any kind. Any violation of those terms can impose serious consequences upon one who ignores them, including additional felony charges and everything that entails. Apparently Jorge Adan Ruiz Macedo, a 32-year-old resident of northern Santa Barbara County either didn’t get that memo or chose to ignore it, for he was arrested on June 19th, according to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Kelly Hoover, “for various drug and weapons charges stemming from a ‘long-term’ investigation.”
It was early afternoon when SBSD Deputies, acting upon the fruits of ongoing investigation in to Macedo’s activies of late, served a search warrant on his residence and discovered “a large quantity of methamphetamines, controlled steroids, ecstasy, and ammunition” therein. Macedo was arrested on the scene and transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked for possession of a controlled substance for sale and being a felon in possession of ammunition, with his bail set at $25,000.
According to Hoover, additional charges of child endangerment pursuant to the presence of children in the crime scene-residence may be soon brought by the District Attorney’s Office.
