Ventura County – Proving once again that the best policy for adult males with respect to any female under the age of 18 is to simply walk the other way, Alex Rios, a 35-year-old resident of Camarillo, was arrested on June 23rd pursuant to allegations of Child Annoyance based upon his activities on the morning of June 18th.
According to Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Det. T.J. DeSalvo, it was at approximately 8:15 a.m. in the area known as Callegus Creek in Camarillo when Rios made verbal contact with a 15 year-old female pedestrian. The conversation reportedly had little to do with the weather, nor was it a case where Rios was the first man in contemporary society to stop and ask someone for driving directions; rather, Rios’ comments were immediately “sexual in nature” and “he offered the victim narcotics,” DeSalvo reported.
The victim, apparently understanding the threat imposed by such advances and comments from a perfect stranger, allegedly “told Rios that she was only 15 years old several times.” Perhaps behaving on the Fuller Brush Man Principle that if you knock on enough doors you’ll sell a brush, remained insufferably persistent and then suggested to the girl that she enter his vehicle so that they could leave the area together.
Reasonably frightened at Rios’ suggestions and insistence, the girl alerted friends who quickly arrived to help escort her from the area and put some distance between herself and Rios. Law enforcement was then notified, and pursuant to the victim’s statements, witness reports, and a positive identification of Rios, he was located and arrested on charges of Child Annoyance.
Rios was then transported to Ventura County Jail for booking, with his bail set at $5,000.
