Former High School Baseball Star Busted for Heroin Sales…Again
Ventura County – Proving once again that real police work rarely resembles that seen on the nightly TV cop shows—wherein an anonymous tip leads to a major SWAT event that rounds up an entire cartel of drug dealers just before the next series of interminable Geico and Cheerios commercials—Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit detectives made an arrest on June 27th that was nearly five full months in the making.
It was in February 2014, according to VCSD spokesman Sgt. Jose Rivera, that Detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s East County Narcotic’s Street Team were contacted by unnamed sources with information that Cody Fierro, a 25-year-old Camarillo resident notable for his stellar high school baseball career that includes his still holding the Newbury Park career home run record, was conducting a thriving business selling heroin out of his house. At that point, Rivera reported, an investigation began involving additional informants and law enforcement undercover work that provided detectives with sufficient evidence to obtain “a search warrant for Fierro, his residence, and his vehicles.”
That warrant was served on Fierro’s residence in broad daylight on the afternoon of June 27th just as he blithely exited his home to find himself face-to-face with a gaggle of badges and guns. Summarily placed under arrest, Fierro stood by while detectives executed the search warrant and discovered a quarter-pound of heroin and more than $6,000 in cash. Assuming that such a volume of narcotic was far beyond that required for a daily buzz, and that cash in that amount should, if legitimately owned, be in a local bank, detectives then transported Fierro to Ventura County Jail for booking on charges of possession and sales of heroin, with his bail set at $50,000. Fierro had been arrested in 2012 for possession of heroin for sale.
