On Sunday, June 29 around 11:30 p.m. in Long Beach, CA, Long Beach police discovered a victim, 31, who was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted. The Long Beach Fire Department escorted the victim to a nearby hospital.
During the investigation, Long Beach detectives found a picture of the possible suspect. Coincidentally, the Signal Hill PD was investigating another sexual assault and the suspect description was similar to the picture. The detectives also believe that the suspect used a handgun to assault both of the victims.
Both departments conducted a search warrant for the suspect on July 3, 2014. They found and arrested 20-year-old Raymond Demetrius Howard at his residence in Long Beach.
On Tuesday, July 8, Long Beach and Signal Hill detectives stated their cases to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office. The District Attorneys charged Howard for assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, attempted human trafficking, robbery, criminal threats, rape, and other sexual related offenses.
Howard may be facing serious jail time, as he is being held on a $5,600,000 bail.
The investigators believe that there are likely other victims of Howard who never contacted the police and the possible victims are encouraged to contact the police as soon as possible.
