SALINAS—Investigators with the Salinas Police Department have arrested 36-year-old Salinas resident Florencio Anselmo after it appears that he stabbed his girlfriend in the chest after an argument on Saturday night near her home on Central Avenue.
On Saturday, July 5 shortly after midnight, police say 44-year-old Salinas resident Maria Ceja arrived home and found her boyfriend Florencio Anselmo was waiting for her in the parking lot of her apartment complex. Witnesses said an argument ensued between them that resulted in him stabbing her in the chest.
“Anselmo was identified running from the scene, while Ceja was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.” Salinas Police Spokesperson Spencer Critchley wrote in a press release, “It appears that the two had been dating for about a year before this incident happened.”
Police immediately released photos of Anselmo hoping that the public could help in locating him. Investigators learned that afternoon that he was at ‘Los Altos’ restaurant on Kern Street in East Salinas. They surrounded the building, but he managed to slip through and get away.
Anselmo surfaced again at a home on San Benito Circle, where he was found hiding, and was taken into custody shortly after 5 pm. He now faces charges in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend.
