WASCO — A man who tried running from police was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Wasco on various drug and weapons charges.
Alfonso Trujillo was booked into the Central Receiving Facility possession of methamphetamine, possession for sales, transportation for sales, possession of firearm with narcotics, paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting or delaying an officer, driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance and a firearm with the serial number removed.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, the chain of events began when a deputy from the Wasco substation observed a vehicle with expired registration being driven on 7th Street in Wasco at around 3 p.m. on July 31. The deputy said the driver, later identified as Trujillo, quickly turned into a market parking lot without using his blinker. A traffic stop was initiated and it was determined that Trujillo was driving without a valid license.
“The suspect then attempted to resist arrest by fleeing the scene on foot,” said sheriff’s spokesperson Ray Pruitt. “A struggle ensued at which time the suspect continued to reach for his waistband.”
Additional deputies arrived on scene and Trujillo was taken into custody. After a search of his person, it was discovered that Trujillo was armed with a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, which tucked inside his waistband. The gun’s the serial number had been removed.
During the search deputies said they also found 142 grams of methamphetamine with and approximate street value of $8,500, paraphernalia, packaging materials, scales and over $1,700 in cash.
