REDDING – Police were after Manuel Everett Perez III for suspected robbery, assault with great bodily injury, and spousal assault. The 36-year-old from Redding is said to be a documented gang member with a violent criminal history.
Last Saturday, July 26 at 3 pm, Redding police were alerted that Perez could be found at his residence of record on Westside Road in south west Redding. According to a police department press release, officers arrived and immediately surrounded the home, which faces South Market Street/Highway 273. They called out for Perez to surrender. Instead, he ran out the back door and tried to get away.
As Perez tried to make his escape, K9 Officer Ryan Ellis was there with his partner “Taro”. Ellis ordered Perez to stop, but he continued to run. Taro, however, proved to be the faster runner, and caught up with Perez easily. While Perez tried to fight off the police dog, Officer Ellis caught up and took him into custody.
Perez suffered injuries in the encounter and was transported to Shasta Regional Medical Center where he was treated prior to being booked into the Shasta County Jail. Taro and Offier Ellis came away with no injuries.
Perez was charged with resisting arrest, robbery, and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant. His bail was set at $50,000.00.
