WASCO — An inmate convicted of first degree murder at the Wasco State Prison was caught and re-arrested on Sunday afternoon after escaping the night before.
Jeffery Landers, 34, was apprehended by deputies from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office and placed into custody without any use of force at around 2 p.m. on Aug. 3. According to Captain F. Harl of the Wasco State Prison, Landers was found in orchard with a 10-inch screwdriver in his possession.
Harl said that Landers allegedly escaped while he was inside a transport at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. Landers was previously arrested in Riverside County on November 19, 2013 on charges of first degree murder and for personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon. He was serving a life sentence.
