Two Arrested in 4th of July Explosion

BAKERSFIELD — Two men were arrested on Friday for a causing an explosion that injured four people on July 4, in Bakersfield. Julian Elizondo and Jim Trino were booked into the Kern County Jail.

Elizondo and Trino both are being charged with manufacturing and possession of a destructive device, detonating a destructive device causing great bodily injury and conspiracy.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the two were arrested after a lengthy investigation conducted by the KCSO Bomb Squad and the Kern County Fire Department Arson Unit. The investigation led to two search warrants and an arrest warrant being issued and executed at a home in the 6600 block of Starbright Drive in southwest Bakersfield and a home in the 19000 block of Stockdale Highway in West Bakersfield on Aug. 8.

The explosion occurred at a wedding reception being held on July 4th for Jim and Lisa Trino, when three balloons filled with Acetylene exploded. Injured in the blast were Russel Lester, Kris Brode, Bryan Walls, and an unidentified person who was who treated and released at a local area hospital.
