Officers from the Roseville Police Department recently arrested two shoplifters after getting assistance from area citizens, according to an official weekly crime report.
Latonya Thomas-Fowler, 34, and Nadiya Aisha Wilson, 34, both of Sacramento were recently arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy (entering the store with the intention of stealing), as well as other related charges. The third person in their vehicle was reportedly interviewed and released.
According to Roseville PD, on Tuesday, August 5, at 10:46 am, officers responded to a report of two shoplifters fleeing from a Rite Aid drug store in the 900 block of Sunrise Avenue. An employee had reportedly observed the suspects stealing and tried to stop then, but the suspects got into an SUV and drove away. Officers were reportedly able to stop the suspect vehicle near the store, and found a large quantity of stolen merchandise inside the SUV.
While officers were reportedly speaking to the suspects inside the vehicle, a citizen bystander approached the officers and informed them he had seen a third woman get out of the vehicle and run away. Officers reportedly searched the area, during which they were helped by other citizens who pointed them in the direction the third woman had run. Officers were able to find the third woman hiding under a pick-up truck in a nearby parking lot.
Nadiya Wilson had been arrested in November of last year while living in Hayward in Alameda County, in the East Bay area. She was charged then with burglary, conspiracy, and false impersonation.
