Some people love to take “selfies”, no matter where they are or what the situation is. In this particular case, it appeared that a young woman decided to take a picture of herself with her boyfriend while they were robbing a house. The boyfriend, however has come forward to claim his innocence.
According to a police report, on Wednesday, July 30 in Santa Clarita, the victim of a residential burglary came home and realized that her front door was unlocked, after she had specifically remembered locking it before she left the house. She noticed that the interior of her house had been ransacked, and that the mesh screen on her kitchen window had been cut out, indicating that someone had broken in. She was missing some electronics, money, and other property that was not specified in the report.
A few days later, the victim checked files stored on her “iCloud” account. When viewing the most recent pictures on her account she saw a few selfies of people she did not recognize. The photos seemed to have posted to the victim’s cloud account automatically.
On Wednesday, August 20, detectives posted the photos online to gain the public’s assistance in identifying the two suspects. As a result, the the man in the selfie turned himself in to the sheriff’s department, and is cooperating with the case. According to a report by NBC news, the young man in the photos is Larry Beltran Jr., who reported to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station with his father after his picture was publicized. According to the story, they claimed his aunt had bought two phones at a swap meet and gave one to Beltran. She said she paid $80.00 for the phones, not knowing they were stolen.
The investigation is still ongoing.
