A Morro Bay man is in custody after he allegedly shot his dog last Monday. According to Morro Bay police, they responded to a call of gunshots around 6:15 p.m. on Java Street.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were told two large dogs were involved in a fight. Also, the dogs’ owner, Stephen Griley, 60, and his unnamed adult daughter tried to pull the dogs apart. When they attempted this, one of the dogs bit Griley’s daughter. She suffered only minor injuries.
Griley, according to police, allegedly shot one of the dogs more than once. Officers discovered the shot dog dead and the other with multiple wounds suffered from the fight.
Griley was transported and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for felony counts of suspicion of cruelty to animals, negligent discharge of a firearm and possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine.
