Forklift Joyride Lands Man in Slammer

SACRAMENTO—Sacramento police arrested a man on Monday, August 25, after he allegedly broke into a business and drove around on a forklift.

Officers arrived at a U-Haul business in the 1600 block of El Camino Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a man has broken into the business and was riding around on a forklift on the property.

Police arrested Jeffrey Paul Kocher, 40, and booked him into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of burglary and tampering, breaking or removing parts. Officers believe that Kocher entered the business through the roll-up doors and started up the forklift. Police said that at one point the forklift broke a window on one of the U-haul trucks.

Police did not specify if Kocher was intoxicated during the episode, but records show at least one past DUI arrest, in April of 2012. His residence is about a 20 minute walk from the scene of the crime, less than a mile away in Clarendon Heights, near the Arden Fair mall.
