Michael J. Rodriguez, 22, and Juan F. Sagredo-Sanchez, 17, both residents of Fairfield, have been in jail since they were taken into custody after a gang-related brawl took place on Tabor Avenue in Fairfield on August 28. They were arrested the next day. Sagredo-Snachez was stopped in the car associated with the incident, and Rodriguez was arrested outside an apartment complex on Alaska Avenue.
A Fairfield Police Department press release stated that investigators believe Rodriguez and Sagredo-Sanchez both fought in a gang melee on Tabor Avenue. Evidence of their involvement was also found in a search of the Alaska Avenue apartment.
This violence was soon followed by further trouble. Michael Ovando, 18, and Rodrigo Bermudez, 16, got together and planned a retaliatory shooting. However, their plans went off track because Ovando shot himself in the leg. Police said Bermudez drove Ovando to nearby NorthBay Medical Center and dropped him off. But afterwards Bermudez persistently carried out the original plan. He drove back down to Tabor Avenue and carried out the shooting at a bus stop. No victims of the shooting were named in the press release.
Minutes after the shooting took place, police arrived and arrested Bermudez. He is being prosecuted as an adult. Rodriguez and Sagredo-Sanchez are still in jail with bail set at $65,000 each. Sagredo-Sanchez is being prosecuted as an adult.
Rodriguez is a convicted felon on parole for a long list of offenses, including criminal threats, weapons charges, vandalism, robbery, grand theft, attempted murder, participation in a street gang, narcotics, and more.
Solano County prosecutors have not filed charges against Ovando yet.
