Homicide detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office have reportedly arrested a male suspect in connection to the shooting homicide of Marquelle Jones, 25, who was inside a vehicle in the Alta Arden Expressway area of Sacramento, according to an official press release.
Joe Miles, 23, was booked into the Sacramento County Jail the evening of Sunday, September 14. While a specific relationship and motive between Miles and the victim are reportedly still not clear, detectives believe this incident has no connection to testimony the victim has provided in the past. Detectives are reportedly not releasing a booking photograph of Miles due to impending furthering investigation in the case.
According to Sac Sheriff, on the evening of Tuesday, September 9, deputies received calls of a male reporting his friend has been shot while sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The shooting victim had reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a center median near the 2000 block of Alta Arden Expressway. Deputies reportedly arrived on the scene to find the victim — later identified as Jones — inside of the vehicle near the center median, who was later pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel.
Records show that Miles has been a frequent offender since he turned 18 in 2008. He has had repeated arrests over the past six years on charges for drug possession, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest, assault with a firearm, street terrorism, and multiple failure to appear in court charges. He was most recently arrested in April on charges of possession of narcotics and committing a felony while on bail.
Homicide detectives are actively continuing to investigate this case and believe a second suspect is still outstanding. They ask anyone with information relating to this crime to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 916-874-5115 or Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP.
