SACRAMENTO—A 45-year-old man shot to death inside his Sacramento County home by robbers on Wednesday has been identified as Byron Darbonne.
The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department said Darbonne was killed Tuesday, September 23 after two armed men entered the residence in the 8200 block of Auberry Drive in South Sacramento, near Highway 99 and Calvine Road, at approximately 5:45 p.m.
No arrests have been made and deputies are unsure exactly what prompted the shooting. Homicide detectives are working to determine a motive and a description of the killers.
A woman who was inside the home with Darbonne at the time was able to grab a small child and escape. “She was able to run out the back, grab the child and jump over the fence to get to the neighbor,” said Lisa Bowman, a Sheriff’s department spokeswoman. She told police the intruders were unknown to her.
Breanna Darbonne, the victim’s daughter, had just spoken with her father a few days ago. “We didn’t have the best relationship, but we’ve been working on it and it’s been improving and I appreciate the little stuff he did for me,” she said.
It was the Darbonne’s girlfriend who called deputies, reporting she had been the victim of a home invasion-turned-shooting. Anyone with information is asked to please call the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115.
