BAKERSFIELD – A suspected rapist is behind bars after being accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a Ridgecrest woman earlier last week.
Robert Borders, 43, was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of rape of a drugged victim, sexual penetration with a foreign object of a drugged victim and oral copulation of a drugged victim. According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when a security officer told deputies that he had been contacted by a female who said she had been sexually assaulted near Bruce’s Truck Stop at Highway 58 and Weedpatch Highway in east Bakersfield.
The event allegedly occurred at about 4:30 in the morning on Sept. 23. “During their investigation, deputies determined that the victim had gone to the home of the suspect where she said she was sexually assaulted while being unconscious,” KCSO Public Information Officer Ray Pruitt said.
Pruitt also said the victim has been arrested the night before in Ridgecrest, for public intoxication and resisting arrest. “She was transported and booked into the Central Receiving Facility in Bakersfield by Ridgecrest Police Department,” Pruitt said.
According to the sheriff’s department, the female victim was released from jail at about 1:46 p.m. on September 22. The victim told deputies that she had met Borders while in Bakersfield, shortly after being released from jail.
