Suspects Arrested in Temescal Canyon High School Shooting Threats
TEMECULA- On Monday, Sheriff’s Investigators arrested three students in a reported shooting threat.
Saturday, September 27, Lake Elsinore Police Department received a tip from the community that there was shooting planned on Monday at Temescal Canyon High School. The information originated from a student who overheard a conversation regarding the shooting. The person reporting this allegedly planned incident to the authorities had no other information to share. The police department informed school officials and made arrangements to send additional officers to campus that day.
Beginning Sunday morning, more calls come into the department from concerned parents as students shared the story of the impending shooting. Numerous comments regarding this planned crime were also shared over social media. Authorities received additional information regarding the source of the information. The police department continued to investigate the reports and conversations throughout the evening and early morning hours.
The police investigation led to a solid lead and investigators identified the student who was the originator of the information and the student who allegedly made the threat. Both were juveniles who attend Temescal Canyon High School.
On Monday September 29, Riverside County Sheriff’s investigators arrived on the campus to identify all parties involved, to serve warrants, and collect evidence. In the course of the investigation they were able to identify additional witnesses as well. Sergeant Ken Chaffin stated in a press release that “As a result of the investigation, three students were subsequently arrested for making criminal threats to other students who attend the school.”
The three juvenile suspects that had been identified were booked at Juvenile Hall. The Lake Elsinore Police Department continues to have an increased presence at the high school and the investigation is ongoing.
