A 23 year old man was reportedly arrested this past Tuesday for an attempted homicide against his roommate, according to an official press release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
Colby Levitz, 23, was reportedly arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of aggravated mayhem, attempted homicide, and outstanding warrants.
According to Sac Sheriff, on Tuesday, September 30, at about 9 pm, Sacramento County deputies responded to a residence in the 9700 block of Mira Del Rio Drive, near Rancho Cordova, in response to a report of a violent assault on a 70 year old male victim. The victim had reported his roommate had attacked him with a knife.
Upon arrival, deputies were able to detain the suspect, who was being subdued by a neighbor who had heard the commotion. Both the victim and suspect were reportedly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
At this time, the cause of the attack is reportedly unknown. Deputies believe the suspect attacked the victim with a cleaver, and in the resulting struggle the suspect mutilated the victim’s ear. The victim reportedly suffered numerous lacerations to his body, which were deemed non life threatening at this time.
Levitz has a history with law enforcement dating back before 2010. While already on probation, in February 2010 he was charged with grand theft, receiving or concealing stolen property, and violating probation. He was charged again with burglary and grand theft in April after being chased from a garage at a home about a mile from his residence. He had stolen some property, and was detained by the victim until officers arrived. In 2013 he was charged with failure to appear in court, contempt of court, and disorderly conduct.
