Suspect Is A Teacher in Morgan Hill
HOLLISTER—Detectives with the Morgan Hill Police Department have arrested a 52-year-old man from Hollister on charges of sexual assault with minor. The suspect is a teacher at Paradise Elementary School and the victim is a student.
According to police, the sexual assault took place earlier this month while school was in session and happened numerous times inside the classroom. The suspect, 52-year-old John Arthur Loyd was a teacher at the school.
Loyd, a 14-year-old veteran at the Morgan Hill Unified School District, has no arrest record and has never been in trouble before this incident. The female victim reported the inappropriate contact to school authorities on Thursday October 2.
School administrations immediately contact the police on the matter. The student told police that the inappropriate contact took place numerous times while school was in session in the classroom.
Loyd was arrested later that evening on Thursday, October 2, after a police investigation. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, lewd and lascivious acts with a child by a suspect 24 years or older, lewd and lascivious acts upon a child as a caretaker, annoying or molesting a child, and preventing or dissuading a victim/witness.
Loyd was arraigned in a south County Courthouse on Tuesday October 7th where he was denied bail.
The School District notified parents, asking them to talk to their children to see if there were any other victims. A 12-year-old former student of Loyd’s did step forward and stated that she too was a victim.
Loyd’s next court date will be October 17, where he is expected to enter a plea.
